I have recently received a number of e-mails about mental health.
As I’ve mentioned elsewhere, tackling mental health has been a particular priority of the Government and I’m pleased that progress has been made to support those with mental health issues.
I appreciate the concerns raised by the Private Member’s Bill, sponsored by Steve Reed MP. As mentioned in other campaign responses, I choose not to sign EDMs due to their excessive cost and limited legislative effect.
An independent review into mental health services was recently set up by the Government which addressed a range of issues. These issues included detention, and how recent practice correlated with a modern mental health system that needed to be responsive to the needs of service users and families.
I am pleased that the Government has responded efficiently to the findings of the independent review and made an announcement on the 26th October. This announcement has set out plans to provide unprecedented mental health support to more than 2 million public sector workers. More details of the announcement can be found here.
The use of restraint by mental health support services has been addressed this year in Parliament, most substantively in February 2017. A link to a Hansard source can be found here.
If any constituents are seeking mental health support or need more information, visit Nottinghamshire County Council website (link here).
Thank you for contacting me on this important issue.
