I have recently received a number of e-mails expressing concerns regarding the effects of the proposed European Union (Withdrawal) Bill.
After the triggering of Article 50, we need to make sure that we work together to get the very best deal for the country and ensure our future prosperity is not jeopardised. There is still much uncertainty regarding the prospective post-Brexit situation for businesses and individuals alike; it is important to reinforce confidence through the challenging period we face upon exiting the EU.
Through the passage of the European Union (Withdrawal) Bill, the most pressing issues we face can undergo full and proper discussion in Parliament. These include the value of immigration, of the single-market, the customs union and the difficulties presented by tariffs. Many Broxtowe residents, especially the young, have expressed concerns to me over the effects of Brexit on these issues and I will continue to represent all my constituents in Broxtowe. Having significant debates in Parliament on these will enable me and my colleagues in Parliament to do the job we have been elected to do – to stand up for our constituents on the issues that matter most to them.
UPDATE:Many constituents have raised concerns over aspects contained within the Bill. I spoke on the issue in Parliament on the 7th September, and raised some of these concerns, particularly over the nature of Clauses 9 and 17
Thank you for taking the time to contact me on this important issue.
