I have recieved a large number of campaign emails regarding the Land Registry
As you may know, the Government published a consultation on 24 March 2016 on options to move operations of the Land Registry to the private sector. This consultation sought views from the public and stakeholders on a number of options proposed in the paper, and on a series of essential safeguards and protections the Government should consider in the case of a privatisation.
The consultation closed on 26 May 2016. The Government is now considering the responses that have been received. I hope you were able to submit your views
No final decision has been made on the future of the Land Registry and no bids from any firms have been received by the department. Should the Government decide to proceed with a move of the Land Registry to the private sector, appropriate due diligence will be carried out on any potential purchasers.
A response from the Government will be issued in due course replying to points raised through the consultation process and outlining the decision of the Government on the future of the Land Registry.
There was a debate on the matter in the House on the 30th June. I have included a link to the debate below and I would stongly encourage you to read the contribution by George Freeman MP, who responded on behalf of the Government.
