I have received a large number of emails asking where I stand on this issue, and have therefore chosen to express my thoughts here.
The Government has set up a Commission chaired by Lord Burns to review the Freedom of Information Act and if they think necessary, to recommend changes.
The oral evidence sessions finished at the end of January and we await their report. I have to say I don’t have any particularly strong views on the FOI Act except that we must be sure it delivers openness and transparency, good governance and is not abused by frivolous claims.
I believe I have supported constituents in their use of the FOI Act and am minded to use it myself if NET/Tramline & City Council refuse to answer my questions about efforts they have or haven’t made to safeguard cyclists on roads with tram tracks.
