Anna Soubry MP, has welcomed the announcement from the Secretary of State for Transport that the HS2 East Midlands Hub will be situated at Toton Sidings, Stapleford.
Toton has been the preferred site of the East Midlands Hub since 2014 but until now HS2 had also been considering other potential locations for the station.
Anna said:
“This is an excellent opportunity for Toton, Stapleford and my constituency as a whole. Not only will it bring better transport connections, it will also relieve pressure on the busy Midland Main Line whilst also creating local jobs, apprenticeships and business opportunities.”
“The announcement also provides certainty to constituents who live along the route and have been waiting for a decision for some time, particularly in Strelley Village where I have asked for a tunnel near the historic Strelley Hall. The Secretary of State has announced various compensation schemes for those affected and I will be making sure these constituents are properly looked after and get the very best outcome possible.”
Following the Secretary of State’s announcement, Anna Soubry MP went on to ask a question in the House of Commons about current plans to build up to 500 houses on Toton Sidings.
Anna added:
“We now need to make sure we do all we can to make the most of the opportunity that HS2 will bring. I have real concerns that current plans to build hundreds of homes on the site will not do this; what we need is a world class business development.”
